In Rajkot, 13 Pakistanis were granted Indian citizenship



IB Report, Approved by the Collector after scrutiny

Rajkot: District Collector Arun Mahesh Babu this evening took an important decision to grant Indian citizenship to 13 people who came to India from Pakistan with permits at Rajkot. This decision has been taken for the first time in Rajkot after the central government handed over this power to the district collectors.

The Central Government has the fundamental right to grant Indian citizenship to citizens coming from Pakistan or Bangladesh. The Center has recently delegated this power to the State Government and the State Governments to the District Collector and Magistrate for this purpose. Rajkot Collector has taken this decision for the first time today. A minimum of 7 years residency in India is required for citizenship of India. In addition, such cases are thoroughly investigated by agencies including IB and scrutinized by the Collector after obtaining the opinion of the police. These 13 people are Hindus and live in Rajkot.
