76.27 per cent polls declared, highest in scorpions and lowest in dhoraji: delays due to separate counting of votes of sarpanch and members

Rajkot: After the polling in 413 gram panchayats in Rajkot district on Sunday, counting of votes will be carried out tomorrow. Tight police security has been set up at all 11 taluka counting centers in the district. The counting of votes will continue till late night as ballot papers are to be counted.

According to the Rajkot district administration's final tally today, 76.27 per cent polling took place in 413 gram panchayats, with the highest turnout of 81.44 per cent in Vinchhia taluka and the lowest at 70 per cent in Dhoraji. Voters of backward talukas have shown more awareness about the duty of voting. In 41 gram panchayat elections of Jasdan taluka 77.60 percent voting has taken place. Rajkot taluka has the highest turnout of 67.97 per cent in 67 gram panchayat elections while Gondal has declared 77.18 per cent turnout.

Ballot boxes were brought to the strong room set up at the taluka center late at night after polling. The counting of votes will start from 9 am on Tuesday. The results will be delayed due to separate votes for Sarpanch and members. The counting of votes will continue till late night in announcing the results of all the villages. Votes written by voters will also come out.

In Rajkot, counting of votes of taluka villages will be done at Sardar Patel Vidhamandir on Santkabir Road. As many as 250 staff members have been stopped in Rajkot for counting of votes. The counting of votes is expected to continue till 11 pm. Only candidates and agents of the village where the counting of votes is going on will be admitted in the centers.

Gram Panchayat elections will be held again in March

Rajkot: With the election of about 10,000 gram panchayats in the state, the political atmosphere in the villages has been hot for the last one month. The counting of votes will be conducted tomorrow in these elections. Another round of Gram Panchayat elections is yet to come before the Assembly elections. The term of some gram panchayats expires in March-April. As many as 30 gram panchayat elections are pending in Rajkot district alone.
