Rajkot first to generate electricity through solar power, rooftops in 58,000 households

Rajkot, : If the energy of Suryadev, who is considered as a storehouse of solar energy, is a unique gift to the world in the field of energy, the energy needs of many families can be satisfied. In the Surya Gujarat Yojana (Solar Rooftop), which was started in the year 2019, 1,51,946 houses in Saurashtra-Kutch, including Rajkot, are being produced by installing solar systems of 456.42 MW. 874.59 crore subsidy has been paid by the government in 1.51 lakh solar rooftop schemes during the last five years.
According to the official sources of PGVCL, which undertakes the operation of providing alternative energy through solar energy, Gujarat has reached the first position in the country in solar rooftop scheme. The scheme launched in the year 2019 was till March 2019. But the state government has extended it by three years till March-R0.
40 per cent subsidy of cost above 3 kilowatts, 20 per cent subsidy above 3 kilowatts and up to 10 kilowatts for installation of solar rooftop system to power consumers for residential purposes, besides group housing societies, residential welfare associations, per house on common facility power connection. A subsidy of 20 percent is provided by the government within the limit of 10 kilowatts.
Sources further said that solar rooftop systems have different rates per kilowatt. The electricity consumers who take advantage of this scheme get the compensation of the scheme during five years. Per unit Rs. 2.50 compensation and the government directly deposits the money into the bank account every month.
Rajkot leads in Saurashtra-Kutch in installing the highest number of solar systems on houses. More than 58,000 houses in Rajkot have been paid a subsidy of Rs 342 crore for solar systems. Apart from this solar system has been fitted in 18537 houses in Bhavnagar, 15072 in Kutch, 11925 in Jamnagar and 11543 in Junagadh. While in other districts of Saurashtra-Kutch, the system has been fitted in the house to a minimum extent.
