475 crores in huge debt of power bill arrears on top of state reforms



Finally, 150 crores were paid to the power companies by deducting from the grant. Out of the amount of 135 crores of electricity bills remaining with different municipalities of Rajkot zone, 42 crores 72 lakhs was paid to the power company.

Rajkot, : After widespread complaints that the municipalities of the state are failing to pay the electricity bills of streetlights and water works, the Gujarat M.U. The finance board has started the process of paying the electricity bill amount by deducting this year from the grant paid to the municipalities on a pro rata basis. As a part of which, it is known that out of the amount of Rs 475 crore remaining with the municipalities of the state, payment of Rs 150 crore has been made towards outstanding electricity bills.

Since all the municipalities of the state, including Rajkot, have not been paying the outstanding electricity bills to different power companies for a long time, this year, after the complaints of the people suffering frequent harassment due to the efforts made by the power companies to cut off the power connection, this year, Gujarat M. The Finance Board has deducted the outstanding electricity bill payments on a pro rata basis from the grant payable to the municipality and 10 percent of the amount paid has been deducted from the grant payable to the municipality. According to sources, the municipality included in the Rajkot zone has to pay more than 135 crores as electricity bill. Out of which an amount like Rs. 42 crores and 72 lakhs was given to the power company. 4 crore 27 lakhs has been paid and it is known that 10 percent of the grant payable to the municipality has been deducted.
