Even after conducting a survey for the renovation of the school building a year and a half ago, the grant has not been allocated yet

Porbandar: The Rajshahi-era Government Middle School building in the heart of Porbandar city has fallen into disrepair and has been closed for years. Then the government should take immediate action for its renovation. Such a demand has been made by the Congress. The now closed school has become a haven for rogue elements.

According to the presentation, the middle school in the center of the city, which functioned as a maternity hospital during the Rajshahi era, was commissioned in the name of FDB Hancock, who was the Agent to the Governor General of Porbandar from 1913 to 1916. Sir Hancock Memorial Middle School was started in 1937 by Maharana Natwarsinhji Bhavsinhji Jethwa in this grand and historic building as part of his memory for his vision and work for Porbandar. From 1937 to 1947 this school was completely managed by the Porbandar State. The historic school was also merged with independent India under the signature of the princely state and was run by the school from 1947 to 2005. After 2005, the use of this building was stopped.

Today this school building has become a hangout for anti-social elements. Benches, cupboards and furniture have also started to be vandalized. The school building is constructed of horseshoe stone and has artistic carvings that can withstand earthquakes by placing keys and wasting space. The middle school has had an illustrious history. Many students have studied here and have attained higher status. At present, the school has turned into a wasteland, piles of dirt can be seen everywhere. Liquor bottles are flying in Patangan. The education department had conducted a preliminary survey about this for a year and a half and sent an estimate of two and a half crores for the renovation of the school. Then recently, a presentation was made about this once again. But no operation is progressing. This school has been closed due to less number of students. Demanded immediate action for renovation of historic middle school.
