Epidemic of Mawthan: Porbandar, Kalyanpur, one and a half in Bhanwad in Lalpur, one and a half inches in Khambhaliya-Ranavav!

In Saurashtra, for the third day in a row, non-seasonal rains have fallen in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Zarmar in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Somnath, Dwarka, Amreli, Junagadh districts. The standing mall was washed away, damage to crops including chickpeas and cumin elsewhere

Rajkot. A record-breaking 1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell in Porbandar today with a thunderstorm, causing waterlogging and erosion of crops in the fields of Bardapanthak. Apart from this, according to official sources, one and a half inches of rain has been recorded in Jamkalyanpur, one and a half inches in Bhanwad, one and a half inches in Khambhaliya and Ranavav till late this evening. Even today, air traffic was disrupted in Rajkot and foggy weather made it difficult for drivers in Saurashtra. Scattered rains have been reported in all districts of Saurashtra including Rajkot, Amreli, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Devbhumi Dwarka and there are reports of severe damage to crops. People are anxious to get relief from the Mawtha epidemic from tomorrow.

Porbandar on the shores of the Arabian Sea received 8 mm of rainfall till this evening. Apart from the city of Porbandar, Ranavav, Adityana, Sodhana of Barda panth, Fatana, Advana, Degam, Bakhrada, Paravada, Visawada, Jamraval, Gorana, Khambodar and coastal villages of Bhavpara, from Ratdi to Miyani are inundated with heavy rains.

Devbhumi Dwarka district which is located near Porbandar has also received unprecedented heavy rains. One and a half inches of rain fell in Khambhaliya and one and a half inches in Jamkalyanpur taluka today. About 24 inches of rain has been recorded in Kalyanpur taluka in 24 hours. Bhanwad and Dwarka talukas also received 2 to 3 mm of rainfall. Villages including Bharana and Mandha on Jamnagar Road received one to one and a half inches of rain and water was seen flowing on winter roads throughout the district.

In Barda panth, crops including coriander, cumin, wheat and sorghum have been severely damaged due to recurrence of water in the fields, said Advani's sarpanch. In Porbandar, students went out in the morning wearing sweaters and got wet with warm clothes. At night the heat of the townspeople was scorching cold and in the morning the heat was soaked by the rain that did not seem to work. In Madhavpur (Ghed) area in Porbandar district, heavy rain fell between Kaladibang clouds.

Rajkot has received non-seasonal rains for the third day in a row. It rained drizzle with sunny weather and strong winds. Heavy rains in Jamkandora caused water to flow on the roads. Apart from Jamnagar city, Lalpur, Kalawad, Jamjodhpur received heavy rains for the second day in a row. After half an inch of rain on Wednesday in Moti Gop village, water started flowing on the roads this morning with thunderstorms. Two inches of rain has been reported in Lalpur panth.

In Veraval taluka in Somnath district, in areas including Sonaria and Navdra, there is a risk of damage to chilli seedlings due to unseasonal rains. In Veraval Sutrapada, the movement in the markets was slow due to unseasonal rains. Surendranagar and Div Panth also received rains today.

On Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway and also in Amreli district, thick fog was created in the morning and drivers had to face great difficulty. In Junagadh district, the roads in Manavadar were flooded due to unseasonal rains amid scorching weather. In the strange weather in Saurashtra, there was thick fog somewhere, heavy rain somewhere, which increased the distress of the people. According to the meteorological department, the weather will be generally dry in Saurashtra tomorrow while Mavtha is likely in South Gujarat. Then with a drop of 3 to 5 C in the temperature, the cold will increase again.
