Lata Didi's dream of visiting Somnath and Dwarka remained unfulfilled

The demise of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, for whom Swar was instrumental, has rekindled a wave of mourning across the country. As Lata Didi's mother is Gujarati, her relationship with Gujaratis has been decades old. He had repeatedly expressed Lataji's desire to visit Dwarka and Somnath Mahadev in Saurashtra but his wish remained unfulfilled.

Whenever artists from Saurashtra visited Mumbai, they wanted to visit Saurashtra-Gujarat and Somnath Mahadev and Dwarka. Plans were made several times but were canceled due to health and other reasons. Mahesh Rathore, a young man from Rajula in Saurashtra, worked as his PA for many years. The artists who met Lataji said that Lataji used to speak in Gujarati while visiting his residence in Mumbai. Being a Gujarati mother, he could speak good Gujarati. He has always been attached to Gujarat.
