The couple was burnt when a fire broke out due to a gas leak

Rajkot: A couple was burnt to death in a fire that broke out this morning when a bottle of cooking gas leaked in the quarters of a housing scheme on Jamnagar Road in the city. The condition of the woman is said to be critical as 90 per cent of her body was burnt.

According to the information received, Madhuban (U.V. 50) went to make tea in the kitchen at 8 o'clock this morning and when he went to light the stove by pressing the switch of the lighter, a fire broke out. In which he was severely burnt. Her husband Dineshbhai Laxmidasbhai Parmar (b. 60) was also burnt in the fire. Both were moved to Civil.

Police have received information that a gas leak occurred yesterday for whatever reason. The kitchen was full of gas all night as the windows and doors of the house were closed. The fire broke out in the morning when Madhuben was going to light the stove. Her son survived being in another room. Madhuban has one daughter and two sons. A son lives apart.

Reportedly, Gandhigram-2 police rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control on its own after the doors of the house were opened, police sources said.
