Rajkot: Mahashivaratri was celebrated in a traditional manner in Rajkot from yesterday till this morning in which approximately 35,000 thousand liters of milk was anointed on Shivling in Shiva Puja at four o'clock in the night. According to Rajkot Dairy sources, milk sales rose by about 21,000 liters yesterday, while private dairies also saw an increase in milk sales.
Many traders had started the implementation of price hike in milk and curd, buttermilk and sweets of private and co-operative dairies only yesterday after seeing the purchase of Mahashivaratri . Earlier, mystical talk of saving milk was circulating on social media from films like Oh My God, but such talk has been seen to be rife with people's unwavering faith in Shiva. In the temples, there was an unbroken stream of milk flowing during every puja of milk. In addition to milk, devotees were also anointed with sugarcane juice, coconut water, Ganga water, milk-yogurt-honey-sugar and ghee a punch nectar.
In addition, millions of bills (three-leaf clover of Bilina tree) and various tons of flowers including roses and yellow flowers were offered to Mahadev with devotion.
It is not customary to collect these flowers as biowaste after burial, but according to the sources in the environment department, burial of billets and flowers in the ground gives them excellent quality fertilizer while burning everything including milk and sticky can produce flammable gas. Such recycling is also partially done in Rajkot.
