Rajkot, : Among all the zones of Gujarat, Saurashtra has the lowest water storage, with an average of 62.93 per cent in the state's 206 dams, only 42.22 per cent in 141 dams of Saurashtra and 40.92 per cent in 20 dams of Kutch. As a result of this, there are speculations of water crisis in the coming summer and the income of Saurashtra's main Madar Narmadanir is likely to be higher.
Out of 20 lakh people in Rajkot, around 16 lakh people who have tap connection are given water only for 20 minutes a day, but today the Aji dam starts emptying in winter itself, after pouring 650 MCFT of water into the dam through the Sauni scheme, today the Sauni water has also been started in Nyari-1 Dam. The Nyari-1 dam has a current storage of 640 MCFT against a capacity of 1248 MCFT. Still water from the sauna will have to be released again at the end of summer and then there will be barely daily distribution in Rajkot.
