Rajkot, : With the arrival of Meghraja in Ashadha, Saurashtra has been flooded by torrential rains. Today, Sorath (Junagarh district) and Somnath districts in Saurashtra and Sambeladar in Surat, Tapi, Narmada districts of Gujarat were flooded with four to eight inches of rain. Junagadh received 7 inches of rain while Sutrapada received 6 inches, Una received 5 inches, Veraval, Talala, Kodinar received four each. Widespread heavy rains including inches have fallen in both these districts by night. Heavy rain started in Rajkot at night. All the districts of Saurashtra including Rajkot, Amreli, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Bhavnagar have received normal rainfall. Five to six inches of rain has also been recorded in Surat, Mahuwa, Vyara, Valod, Dolwan, Kukarmunda, Bardoli, Tilakwada area of Narmada in Tapi district. 120 talukas received 1 to 8 inches of rain while another 70 talukas received showers of up to one inch of rain by night and the weather is still heavy. Several check dams have been inundated by the rains, vehicular traffic has been affected with one and a half to two feet of water in most cities. Along with the rain, there were strong winds and huge lightning strikes.
In Junagadh, in two hours from four to six in the evening, including five inches in Sambeladhar, Junagadh was inundated by 7 inches of rain till today night, the streets of the city were flooded with a rushing river, Gothandub, waterlogged, and plains turned into lakes. Urban activities came to a standstill. On Mount Girnar and Datar, torrential 9 inches of rain sent gushing streams into the forests and over the steps leading up the mountain. Rainfall of 4 inches in Visavadar, 3 inches in Keshod, 2 inches in Mangrol, 3 inches in Malia Hatina, 2 and a half inches in Vanthali and Bhensan, 2 inches in Manavadar till tonight in the district.
According to reports from across Saurashtra (1) As five inches of rain fell in Patanwav, the water started rushing down this historic hill, Bhavingiri Aparnathi (d. 24), Krishnaben (d. 20) and Arunaben (d. 23) The three were rescued with the help of the fire brigade who called the sarpanch who got caught in the flood on the hill. (4) Four inches of rain in Talala and Heavy rains in the rural areas rained like raw gold for agricultural crops including groundnuts, soybeans. Saraswati River passing through Madhupur Gir, Farfari River experienced the first heavy flood of the season. (5) In the rainy weather for three days in summer, Anand Bazar, Varsingpur Road, received five inches of rain today. Girgarhda Road, Chandrakiran Society and other places were flooded with two feet of water. Kodinar has received universal heavy rainfall including 4 inches.(5) In Dolasa area of Kodinar, another four inches of rain flooded fields. Dolasa, Advi Gama were flooded.
Rajkot city today, after day-long thunderstorm, stormy battering of Meghraja started with night lightning and whirlwinds and rained up to one and a half inches of water. Roads were flooded everywhere.
In Rajkot district (1) two inches of rain in two hours has relieved the water problem. (2) Two and a half inches of rain in Jasdan caused one and a half feet of water in the area including Atkot Road, Tartapa Sheri, Latiplot, Khanpar Road, Samat Road, High School Road. It has also rained heavily in the villages of Kanesara, Bakhalwad, Kamlapur, Parewala of the taluka. (3) In Jamkandorana, the water level has reached 9 feet due to fresh inflow of water in Phofal Dam due to rainfall of one inch in one hour. (4) One half to one and a half inches of rain has fallen in Gondal and three inches in rural areas. (4) Monsoon rainfall has increased to 15 inches in Upaleta with two and a half inches of rain till today evening. People have been urged not to travel in areas including Bhayavadar, Nagavadar, Gadhethad, Meghatimbi, Nilakha, Varjangjalia, where the river is flooded due to heavy rains.
Other districts of Saurashtra also received one to three inches of rain in which (1) Babra of Amreli district and Umrala taluka of Bhavnagar received three to three inches of rain and four inches of rain fell in rural areas of Babara. 2 inches of rain in Lathi has flooded the check dams with Ghodapur in the river. One and a half feet of new water has come in Survo Dam. (4) Porbandar's Kutiana has been flooded with four and a half inches of rain in twenty-four hours. Ghed Panthakam up to Madhavpur Ghed also reported three inches of rain. Half an inch of rain fell in Porbandar and Ranawav today. (3) Jamnagar, Morbi, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, including the district have also recorded extensive rain.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Valsad, Daman, Vadodara, Sabarkantha, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Navsari and Saurashtra, especially Junagadh, Gir Somnath district and Diu Panthak of Gujarat tomorrow.
Aji-2, Macchu-2, Sapda, Ruparel, Azatwiar overflow: The level of Ajidam supplying water to Rajkot reached 23 feet.
Rajkot, : In Saurashtra, the inflow of new water has started slowly in the reservoirs due to the incessant rainfall. In 26 reservoirs, the level of water in dams has risen by 0 to 12 feet in the last 24 hours. While Aji-2, Macchu-3, Sapda, Ruparel, Ozat V. (Shapur), Ozat V. (Vantli) dam overflowing low-lying areas have been advised to be on alert.
Aji-1 Dam, which supplies water to the city of Rajkot, is continuously increasing the level of the dam due to the rain falling upstream. Today the dam has reached another 23 feet. While 0.49 feet in Aji-2, 0.16 in Sodvdar 1.31, 3.44 in Survo and 1.48 feet in Bhadar-2 dam, new water has been received.
Out of 10 dams in Morbi district, two dams have received new water. In this, 0.39 feet of water has been released in Macchu-2 dam and 1.15 feet in Brahmani-2 dam. Half a dozen of Halar's 22 dams have received new neer. It has received 0.82 feet in Panna, 1.54 in Falzar, 11.48 in Rangamati, 0.98 in Falzar-II, 0.75 in Wadisang and 1.54 in Wagdia. Low-lying areas have been advised to remain on alert as Halar's sapda and Ruparel dam overflow. Ghee Dam in Dwarka district received 0.49 feet, Bhogavo-2 in Surendranagar 0.98, Bhogavo-1 3.51, Phulku 0.16 and Sakroli Dam in Amreli 6.89 feet.
Heavy rains in Junagadh division have resulted in fresh water in seven dams. While Ozat Weir (Shapur) and Ozat Weir (Vantli) dams have overflowed. 0.95 in Hiran-2 Dam, 0.32 in Madhuvanti, 2.29 feet in Shingola, 0.16 in Machhundri, 0.16 in Ozat Weir (Shapur), 0.39 in Ozat-r and 6.49 feet in Rana Khirsara.
During the last 24 hours, 64 dam sites of Saurashtra have received rainfall ranging from 3 inches to 3 and a half inches, including 3 inches in Shingala, Ozat (Shapur), 3 inches in Sakroli, 2 and a half inches in Sodvdar, Survo, Falzar-2, Hiran-2, Fophal-Madhuvanti- Other dams, including two inches at Machhundri, have received light to one-and-a-half inches of rain.
