Rajkot,: The 75th year of Republic Day was celebrated with national pride by unfurling the national flag along with religious flags at the world famous pilgrimage destinations of Saurashtra. This time, the tricolor flag was hoisted on the Jagat temple of Dwarkadhish and on the peak of the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple.

Dwarka Tirtha, one of the four dhamas in the country, has six flag hoistings per day according to tradition. Yesterday, on the occasion of January 26, a flag with the three colors of the national flag - saffron, white and green - was hoisted on the peak. The temple premises were decorated. So the pilgrims went to Gomti river and hoisted the flag and with the chant of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Vande Mataram, a patriotic atmosphere was created in this holy river as well.

There are 22 inland islands along the coast of Dwarka district near the western border of the country. In addition to the inland islands Betdwarka, Samitani, Khara Mitha Chusna Island, Manmarudi, Lefa Marudi, Kalabhar etc. islands were flagged off by the district police. At the Nageshwar Mahadev temple near Dwarka, the tricolor flag was also hoisted on the peak.

Somnath Mahadev was decorated with tricolor flowers and the temple was decorated with these three colored lights. Flag hoisting was done and both religious flag and national flag tricolor were hoisted at Somnath.

Around 100 swimmers, including 20 women and children, floated in the sea, waved the tricolor and sang the National Anthem in Porbandar in bitter cold. Tricolor was also hoisted on upper Datar mountain in Junagadh district.

According to reports from Saurashtra (1) Rajkot District level Republic Day was celebrated at Upleta in which Agriculture Minister was present. Various schemes and achievements of the government were described by the speakers. (2) Morbi district level celebrations took place at Khakharechi (T.Maliyamiana), the land of Satyagraha, where programs including march past and tree planting were held.
