The arrival of raw mangoes in the market, initially traded at 40 to 65 per kg

Saffron mango production expected to increase by 50,000 tonnes this year: 2,300 kg of mangoes on first day in Rajkot yard, watermelons also started picking up after summer

Rajkot: Due to the onset of summer, the income of raw mangoes has started in the market yards in Saurashtra, including Rajkot. Raw mango wholesale prices were initially recorded at Rs 40 to 65 per kg today.

Rajkot market yard has started receipt of raw mangoes today with 2,300 kg. This mango is not often eaten cooked but is widely used in salads in Sambhara as well as in its salad with jaggery.

Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Porbandar districts which are the hub of saffron mango production in Gujarat suffered huge damage to mangoes last year due to Cyclone Taute but this time the picture of saffron mangoes has become much brighter and around 2 lakh tonnes of mangoes are estimated to ripen this year as against 1.56 lakh tonnes last year. Due to which the prices of mangoes are likely to be maintained as compared to last year. The weather for the mango crop has been generally favorable this year due to which people are likely to eat this sweet sweet saffron mango freely.

On the other hand, the temperature is higher than normal now, there is a feeling of summer, the demand for watermelon has increased and the income of watermelon has also increased. In Rajkot yard, the income of 15800 kg of watermelon was recorded today and the price of 20 kg was Rs. 200 to 350. Apart from watermelon, the market of summer fruits like grape sweet potato is also emerging in the markets of Saurashtra.
